My Foster Dogs!
In March 2013, we decided to become a foster home for adoptable dogs for a local humane society (and in July 2013 we also started fostering for a local rescue group). Some dogs needed behavioral/social help, some are getting over an illness, some need to put on weight, some just need a spot when the shelter is full. Each one is a special case and each one leaves pawprints on our hearts.
Are you looking for a dog for your family? Meet our rescue group's current dogs available for adoption and see if they're a fit for you!
You can check out all Adoptable Dogs from JR'S Pups N Stuff at:
http://jrspupsnstuff.org/?page=alladoptable
Follow the steps for the adoption process - adoption fees are usually ~$400-450 per dog and include spaying/neutering (this alone can cost $200-300 at a vet clinic), all updated shots, certified vet inspection, and micro-chipping. A portion of the adoption fee ($50) is refundable with proof/certificate of completing a training course after adoption and some of the fees are tax deductible, as JR's Pups N Stuff is a 501(c)3 charitable organization. Aren't sure if you're ready for a dog?
Hannah - still available for adoption!
Hannah is a playful strawberry blonde, ~3-year-old American Staffordshire Terrier/Pitbull mix who just weened off her 7 cute puppies - now they're all looking for their furever homes! She is a very sweet girl who is quick to learn new commands (especially if she gets a treat!)
Hannah would do best in a home with an at-home human companion or another dog (she chases after cats or other small animals!) She doesn't love to be left alone in her crate, though she settles down in a few minutes if you give her a bone or Kong filled with peanut butter.
She walks pretty well on a leash most of the time and is crate-trained. She might need a little more training before going to a home with small children - she has done well with kids over age 10. She's still young and has some energy that needs to be let off!
Hannah's adoption fees are $350*

Claudia - Adopted!
Claudia is a spunky little roly-poly girl who LOVES to play - she is full of energy and curiosity. Even though a tennis ball is bigger than her head, she will gladly chase after it and try to bring it back to you. She might be the runt of the litter, but she's feisty and can hold her own just fine. She is fascinated by this cold white stuff that the humans call "snow" - she eats it up every time she walks outside... but it makes her shiver!
They appear to be mostly crate trained and are very good about going outside 90% of the time. Claudia is adorable with her little perky ears and her pretty white front feet and "painted" white back toes. She also has a patch of white on her chest and the faintest little white streaks on her nose and chin. 2/10/15 - She is ~10 weeks old and we think they're a lab mix of some sort... but this pair looks nothing like their littermates, so it's hard to tell. They're each only about 5 pounds, so we don't think they'll be terribly big when they grow up. 2/13/15 We found out from their Alabama foster mom that the puppies' mama was a small red dog, about 20-25 lbs and 12-16" tall. The male dog found with them was black and tan. Charlie and his sister Claudia went to a loving home together! They have a doggy big brother and lots of love from their humans! |
Charlie (Chuckie) - Adopted!
Meet Charlie (or as we're calling him, Chuckie... because we already fostered a Charlie)!
Charlie's an absolute sweetheart who loves to snuggle and play. He is a very mellow guy and gets a little annoyed when his sassy little sister Claudia picks fights with him - he's a lover, not a fighter. He would much rather cuddle up in your lap and sleep. He has been our little shadow since he arrived. He's a Southern boy at heart and doesn't love going out in the cold... he gives you a pretty pathetic look and just sits by the door as soon as he has done his business outside They appear to be mostly crate trained and are very good about going outside 90% of the time. 2/10/15 - He is ~10 weeks old and we think they're a lab mix of some sort... but this pair looks nothing like their littermates, so it's hard to tell. Barley - Adopted!
Barley is a cute curious girl who's ready for her furever home! She and her sister, Hopps, are German Shepherd (mix?) puppies available for adoption through JRs Pups N Stuff (They do not need to go to the same home, they can be separated.)
Barley is super soft and fuzzy, with big ears and paws. She's very snuggly and friendly ... and she'll do anything for a treat, which she will take gently from your hand! She's already learning to sit and working on house and crate training. Barley would do best in a home with another dog. She doesn't love to be crated if you need to leave, but does well even if left in a closed-off room for a few hours. Barley and her sister Hopps were adopted together! Their new parents LOVE the girls so much and they're getting so big, are still super sweet and just awesome dogs! |

Hopps has smooth shorter hair, with big ears and paws. She's very mellow, shy at first, but will snuggle up in your lap without hesitation ... she loves treats, which she needs some training on how to be "gentle" when she takes it! She's working on house and crate training. Hopps and her sister Barley were adopted together! Carleton - Adopted!
Who wouldn't LOVE THIS FACE??!
Carleton is a precious, adorable, soft, fuzzy, loving, little snuggly sweetheart! He's 2 months old (born 4/26/14), ~13 lbs, not sure on his mix... Maybe shepherd/great Pyrenees? His mama Maggie was uniquely beautiful with brown/black/white longer fur, very sweet, very gentle. Carleton suffered a minor setback at about 7 weeks old when his back left leg suddenly became paralyzed after waking up from a nap... no real reason or any visible trauma that caused it. But this little energetic happy puppy has NO IDEA there's anything wrong with him! He runs around, explores, and loves to snuggle and would let you pet him all day, if your arm allows it! He's improving a little already, we're praying for full recovery... We have him until at least mid-July 2014 to help with his rehab on an individual basis, now that his littermates have all found homes and another litter came into the foster home where he's grown up so far.
Whoever becomes his furever family will need to spend quality time with him and know there is a potential of him being a "tripod" someday if this leg doesn't improve, but all other functions hold strong! (If the decision is made to amputate his leg, it cannot happen until at least 6 months old, after his bone structure and hips have developed to a point where he can be successful with such a surgery.) Right now we are focusing on keeping his leg strong and working with him on balance and trying to use his legs equally, when possible.
He is paper-training in his crate and working really hard on his outdoor potty-training (and doing a FABULOUS job!) He loves other animals but we need to make sure that any larger dogs he might live with will not accidentally hurt him by playing too rough while he is recovering. He's just a loving little guy and anyone who is willing to work with him will be rewarded with the sweetest furry friend!st
Carleton was adopted by a super-loving family - complete with human sister and furry brother - that is so excited with his progress and has seen vast improvements in his use of his back leg - he' 95% back to normal, even going swimming and running (he wears a special sock to help with his foot placement)! He's getting to be a big boy too!

Tock - Adopted!
Tock is a sweet young black lab mix (we think it might be a little bit of pit mixed in?) with a happy tail, beautiful golden eyes, and a little white star over her heart. She is full of love to share - she gives kisses and snuggles as often as you'll let her! She is very eager to learn and picks up commands quickly - she knew "sit" within hours of arriving in our foster home and is working on "come", "paw", and "lay down" with great progress. She did great getting her first bath too and loves to be brushed! Tock is super soft and LOVES belly rubs! She even dances on occasion - she has excellent balance when standing on her back legs! And she's shown us that she knows how to "Army crawl" so we're teaching her the command for that too! ;)
Tock sleeps in her crate with no whining (unless she needs to tell you she has to go outside) and she has had no accidents when left in the crate for a few hours. She likes to go in there on her own for naps and eating too... it's her "safe place". She enjoys walks, curiously sniffing the neighborhood. She's still very much "puppy" and is learning to walk nicely on a leash, though she listens pretty well and can "sit" on command even when there's a lot of activity around her. Tock should really be called "Shadow" because she loves her humans and likes to follow them everywhere, staying close to their side. She just has so much unconditional love to give! She has been very warm and friendly from the first day. She gets along with children and other dogs (as long as they're not barking at her or trying to attack her - she never initiates any issues.) Even though she was found as a stray - with her "sister" Tick - we have a feeling she had a family at some point in her life, who loved her and took good care of her. Tock was adopted by a super nice family with two little kids (and another on the way!) She's already snuggling into bed with them and loving her new home with a big backyard! . |
Wendy - Adopted!
|
Wendy is a beautiful purebred white German Shepherd, about 2 years old and 65 pounds. She had puppies in June 2013 and, now that all her puppies have been adopted, Wendy has been spayed and is ready for her furever home! (Wendy doesn't have papers about her being a purebred, but the people who adopted one of her puppies got a DNA test done and the results show that she's pure white German Shepherd!) She is very sweet, a little shy at first, and super soft. She is very selective in which dogs she likes, and we're not sure about cats (she's seen them on walks - fairly close distance - and done nothing so it might be a possibility?) so she'd need to meet any potential new furry friends she might be sharing a home with... and would do well as the only furbaby in the house too. She is great with kids and very gentle and tolerant! She's house trained and knows some commands - "sit", "paw", "come", plus her name and when we whistle - we're teaching her more. She walks well on a leash - just pulls a little when she's curiously sniffing the neighborhood. She LOVES her bone and is praise- (and also treat-) motivated, but hasn't really cared about balls or toys too much. She's not food or bone possessive either - just appreciates the treats when they're given to her! She likes to be able to sit and look out the window - she's very attentive to what's moving outside but has only barked when other dogs walk by or start barking at her. She is a little silly in that she prefers to walk and lay down on carpet but has moved around on hardwood and tile floors (with just a little hesitation) - she's getting much better at this. She is also OK on stairs when they are not slippery (like linoleum). She will need to be kept on a leash outside - unless you have a tall solid fence around your yard - she can be a runner. She sleeps in her crate (it's got carpet in it for her!) or on a blanket on the floor at night and we've left her to roam a bit of the house when we've gone out for a little while and she hasn't gotten into anything.
Wendy got adopted by a super nice family, who even built her a deluxe bed where she can watch everything going on outside the window! |
George - Adopted!
My name is George and I'm a roly poly cutie pie! I'm about 4 months old and they tell me I'm a Shepherd mix (my littermates look very Shepherd-y and I can too, from the right angle, but I've got a Rottweiler-looking face and my legs are little short sausages so we're just not sure how big I'll get... maybe some Dachsund snuck in there! Actually my legs are slowly growing... I am able to jump up on the couch by myself now... I get scolded sometimes for that!) I'm very well-mannered and mellow, but very playful with my sister, Martha, who's always after me to play! I LOVE to snuggle and sleep anywhere and everywhere, if you let me. I'm not as sure about jumping in to play with the big dogs like my sissy (maybe I'm a litle self-conscious of my short stubby legs... which are adorable!) but if they're getting too rough on her, I'm sure to jump in and be her hero! When we take car rides, I "keep watch" for a little bit, while Martha sleeps and then I doze off after I know we're safely on our way. I'm crate-trained and working really hard on house training - I rarely have accidents in the house anymore - but I do my business outside like a champ because I know I might get a treat and can go back into the warm house! Though the white fluffy stuff is fun when it's not too cold and windy out! Would you be my perfect furever family?
George was adopted into a very nice family and is still a snuggle-bug... they DNA tested him and it came back he's a Chihuahua/Lab mix (along with a half dozen other mixed breeds)??!!

Cute video of George chasing an ice cube around the floor!
Sorry all these cuties have found their "furever" homes already - we miss them dearly but are so happy for their great progress and that they've found great families who love them as much as we did!
Martha - Adopted!
My name is Martha and I am...well...adorable and just all kinds of fun! I am about 3 months old and come from a litter of Shepherd mix puppies... I look a little like a lab maybe too? My brother George and sisters look more like Rottweilers... so it's anyone's guess! I'm a sweet little girl who is super curious and playful. I'm small but mighty and play well with my brother, George, and bigger dogs - I hold my own, no problem! I have slender long legs and jump on my brother to play - he's shorter so I can pin him down! I like to sniff around to check out my surroundings and am crate-trained and working really hard on house training (especially since it's so cold out in the snow and I would rather stay warm inside!) I can run up and down stairs with ease! I "sit" on my own a lot and love car rides - it's my time to catch some beauty sleep! I sleep through the night and eat like a champ so I can grow up big and strong! I'm super soft and can be very cuddly after a full day of playing.
Martha found a great home with a furry big "brother" - they play so nicely and her new parents absolutely adore her! :)

Sir Charles Henry IV... aka "Charlie" - Adopted!
Charlie is a 4-yr-old black lab/border collie mix who is house-trained and very smart. He knows lots of commands and does great on car rides. He loves "outside" though he spends most of the day inside, following you around the house and laying at your feet as you go about your day. He's a sweet loving dog who is excited to greet you when you come home (without jumping up on you) and likes to snuggle in your lap. He's a solid 65-70 lbs but smaller frame (not overweight/fat) with a happy tail. He even stops and has a cute "siren" howl when he hears emergency vehicles go by. He's a good guard dog and barks to let you know someone is coming up to the house but otherwise he only barks a warning or two when other drivers pull up right next to your car. He does have some separation anxiety when he's home alone (he was abandoned by his last family) so Charlie will do best in a home with another animal to keep him company or someone who is home all the time. He does well in his crate when he's left alone for a few hours, just cries when you leave but settles down after a few minutes. He has been around children from ages 2-11+ and done just fine around all of them. Our only warning might be that Charlie LOVES his bones... if anyone one (human or animal) tries to take it away, he's not one to share - we're working on this!
Charlie has found a great family and keeps his grandma company all day, so neither one is ever left alone! He lets her know when someone comes to the door!
Charlie has found a great family and keeps his grandma company all day, so neither one is ever left alone! He lets her know when someone comes to the door!
We were driving along and a train came up the tracks next to the road and honked its horn. Charlie, thought it was yelling at him.... so he yelled back - FUNNY! (PS - there is a train horn and dog barking... you'll need your speakers on, but not too loud, if you're at work or trying to be quiet!) P.S. Adopt Charlie!
|
We were finally able to capture Charlie's cute "siren howl" on video! When he hears sirens (police, fire, ambulance) going off nearby, he stops and starts to howl along with them! SO cute! P.S. Adopt Charlie!

Dottie - Adopted!
Dottie is a 3yr old shepherd mix who is house trained. She is a super happy, loving dog. We've just got her until she can get over a little cold and put on a little weight. Everyone who meets her, loves her! She doesn't bark or jump or make any messes around the house. She doesn't like her crate - she is content to sleep and stay on her little rug with a blanket or towel, and maybe a bone to chew on. She walks very slowly on walks, just taking it all in... but she does take an interest in small animals like squirrels and rabbits (don't let go of the leash - she will run after them!) Dottie would do best in a house with a fenced yard because she does tend to sneak away if left off her leash at the park. She does have a really cute "helicopter" move when she's let off her leash - so excited to be free! She loves to run free at the dog park and plays well with other dogs - the "slow walker" actually leads the pack in a run - surprise! But the poor thing doesn't know how to play fetch - maybe one day she'll learn! She did put on 9 pounds in the 2 weeks we had her so she was put up for adoption and found her furever home in just 1 day! Private adoption through Wisconsin Humane Society
Peanut - Adopted!
Peanut is a 4mo old cocker spaniel/shih tzu mix. He was brought into the humane society to be put down for aggression... wha?? We tried everything we could - taking away his toys or food from him, trying to rile him up... nothing but a cute little sweet puppy! He only growled when he was in his crate and it was dark or a stranger approached him, but if you stuck your hand in close to him, all he'd do is lick you to death! He was in and out of our house in 5 days, got neutered at the shelter, and was adopted the next day! Private adoption through Wisconsin Humane Society
Girly - Adopted!
Girly is our first foster dog and she quickly snuggled her way into my heart! She was abandoned and had anxiety issues - she couldn't take the activity and noise at the shelter so she needed a quiet home where she could settle down and open up... it took us days to coax her out of the safety of her crate. She learned to trust us and followed us all over the house (except when we went down stairs - she didn't know how to go up/down a flight of stairs on her own) She rarely barked - and when she randomly did, we ALL looked surprised by the deep bark she had, even Girly! She becomes a completely different dog when you let her loose at the park and throw a ball or frisbee - she's the world's most eager fetcher! She never thought to run off or sneak away... unless she was on the trail of a rabbit or cat - then there's no stopping her! When Girly didn't get enough exercise and was left home alone, she could get into a little mischief - getting into the garbage or chewing up TV remotes or papers that were left at her level... nothing destructive to the house itself, just small messes. We had worked long and hard with Girly to get her out of her shell. She learned to love humans - especially kids (unfortunately she didn't seem to like any other dogs!) and when we had to send her to a temporary foster home while we were on vacation, she did very well with them and the humane society asked if it would be OK to test her for a day or so in the shelter where more people could see her because she had "become a completely new dog". (That felt good to hear, especially being our first foster experience!) We got to see her at the shelter the day we returned from vacation - she was so excited to see us, she couldn't stop wiggling and leaning into us. We left her there and she was quickly adopted the next day! I do miss her and think about her often! Private adoption through Wisconsin Humane Society
